Programme Overview

The G.N.M. programme focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for nursing practice. Students learn to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care in hospitals and community settings.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 10+2 with English and a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate from a recognised board
  • Candidates from State Open School or NIOS with English are eligible
  • 10+2 with ANM (Vocational) or Health Care Science (Vocational) with 40% marks are also eligible
  • Registered ANMs with pass marks are accepted
  • Age limit: 17–35 years (as on 31st December of admission year)
  • 5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates
  • Reservations as per State Government Policy

Programme Objectives

  1. Demonstrate competency in providing holistic healthcare to individuals and families
  2. Apply knowledge from biological and behavioural sciences in nursing practice
  3. Collaborate effectively with healthcare teams
  4. Provide curative, preventive, and rehabilitative services
  5. Demonstrate ethical values and professional responsibility
  6. Participate in professional organizations and continuing education
  7. Demonstrate teaching and administrative skills in healthcare settings
  8. Assist in community-based research activities

First Year Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology, Sociology, Fundamentals of Nursing, First Aid, Community Health Nursing–I, Environmental Hygiene, Nutrition, English, Computer Education
Second Year Medical–Surgical Nursing–I & II, Mental Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing
Third Year Part I Midwifery & Gynecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing–II
Third Year Part II Nursing Education, Introduction to Research, Professional Trends & Adjustments, Nursing Administration & Ward Management

Examination System

Annual examinations are conducted by the MP Nurses Registration Council in August/September, with supplementary exams held every six months.

Students must complete 11 months of coursework with 80% attendance in theory and 100% in practicals. Absences must be compensated during summer vacations.

Award of Diploma

Successful candidates are awarded a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (G.N.M.) by the Madhya Pradesh Nurses Registration Council, Bhopal, and are eligible for registration with the Nursing Council of any State in India.
